Description

(Lake Michigan) A course that combines Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering.  ASA 103 teaches students to be able to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions. Taught in combination with ASA 104 which is an advanced cruising course for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30 - 50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The course includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance procedures.

"The course is a 6 day on-water learning/vacation course from Door County to destinations chosen by the instructor and students."  Most days, instruction will end around 5 p.m. weather permitting leaving the evening free for leisure activities. 

Prerequisites:
Member, ASA 101. Cost: $815.  Cost includes all chartering related costs, instruction, materials, exams, and food.  Sign up in the Outdoor Program Office.
